Woodbine Manor Newsletter – September 2025

As the leaves begin to fall and the nights draw in, Woodbine Manor has fully embraced the shift into autumn. September brought with it a noticeable change in the weather, colder wetter days and the return of early darkness, prompting staff to encourage families to check that residents have appropriate autumn and winter clothing and nightwear. Keyworkers are on hand to assist wherever needed.

The home has seen a flurry of activity in recent weeks. Musical performances by Kerry & Sue, as well as Regis Rhythms, lifted spirits with upbeat songs and singalongs. Meanwhile, violinist Mark offered residents a more classical, soothing experience a performance that proved to be a highlight for many.

In a nostalgic twist, residents took a “walk down memory lane” with Sharon during a reminiscence session themed around going back to school. Stories flowed about childhood days and the first days of school for their own children, sparking laughter, fond memories, and meaningful connections.

The Cooking Club warmed hearts (and stomachs) with freshly baked Welsh cakes, served warm with afternoon tea. Meanwhile, the Gardening Club wrapped up its successful growing season, with residents taking pride in their homegrown produce. The club will pause during the colder months and return in the spring.

Looking ahead, the month of October promises an engaging schedule of themed arts and crafts, sensory activities with crisp autumn leaves, and several exciting visitors. Graham, from a local hedgehog rescue centre, will deliver a short talk about the charity’s work, and he’ll be bringing a hedgehog guest along with him. Residents can also look forward to a vocal performance from Chloe and a lively country and western show by the ever-popular Shay.

In response to feedback at the last residents and families meeting, a pop-up clothing shop has been arranged. Gemini Fashion will visit the home on Wednesday 22nd October, giving residents the chance to browse and shop with ease. Further details will be shared by email.

Residents and families are also reminded of the upcoming Residents & Families Meeting on Friday 31st October at 11am, where Tom Scott from Carewise will be joining to share information about the services they offer.

For those who benefit from clearer reading materials, bold print social planners are now available. Residents have responded positively, and copies are available upon request for family members.

The home itself has undergone a series of impressive upgrades. The front exterior now boasts sleek grey brickwork and modern resin pathways, alongside mature greenery and well-maintained lawns. Plans are in place to add colourful planters in the spring.

Inside, freshly painted corridors have been given new life. The ground floor has been designed with a quaint village theme, complete with eye-catching details to spark conversation. Upstairs, the corridors now feature a vibrant seaside motif, including a striking mural of Bognor Regis Pier and cheerful beach huts.

Another major improvement includes the installation of a new call bell system. Gone are the loud ringing alarms — staff now carry discreet pagers, creating a calmer and quieter environment for residents. Additionally, work is underway to replace the passenger lift, with completion expected by November. The team is also beginning to plan refurbishments for several bedrooms.

With a calendar full of seasonal activities, continued improvements, and a strong sense of community, Woodbine Manor is ensuring that residents enjoy a safe, engaging, and cozy autumn season.

Warmest wishes,
The Woodbine Manor Team
